Tips For Study Abroad

By Broderick Bell Blog at 2010-12-29 05:59:40
Your career actually begins with choosing a college. It is a big decision. The key is to remember that there's no such thing as a "perfect" college. You will need to find out the list of colleges and universities that match your preferences.

You have arrived to a foreign country. The first thing to do is to take some rest, prepare for the next day. Then you should make a plan, explore the city, find interesting places, use your language skills as much as possible. You will find that all the locals can be very friendly if they hear that you are learning their language.

Sort out your bank. You have to tell your banking and credit institutions of your impending move, and the sooner the better. Be sure to sign up for paperless statements if offered and confirm that the bank has lifted any international restrictions on using credit and ATM cards abroad. Also, double check the fees and exchange rates for using your cards internationally.

Jot down whatever you purchase. Write down every purchase and really pay attention to your cash. If you use a credit card for all your purchases, this is especially important; as many students find out, it's incredibly easy to lose track of how much you've spent if everything's being bought with plastic.

Opting to study in Shanghai does not mean that it is the only thing that you will do. This city does know how to have fun. In fact Shanghai is known as the nightlife capital of China. This very hip and happening nightlife is also one of the main tourist attractions. You will find an abundant amount of bars and nightclubs dotting the city - a great way for you to unwind on the weekend after a long week at college.

Keep in mind that the assistance from an expert at your university is always helpful. This can be either a student who studied abroad or someone or organization that supports students having the desire to go abroad, like an International Office. An expert can give you valuable insider tips and respond to your questions.

Keep your money in a safe place. Pickpockets usually have a partner who accidentally bumps you or asks for directions or the time. By distracting you, their partner can take off with your money or other valuables. Put the shoulder strap of your bag across your chest and don't stay near the curb to avoid drive-by snatchers.

High school study abroad generally involves as homestay because the students are not old enough to live independently in their own apartments. In the best of circumstances, you are truly incorporated into the family.

Give your stomach time to adjust to new foods and practice moderation wherever you are. To help your stomach, include some familiar foods in your diet. Locate a western-style supermarket to get foods that you normally eat at home. Or go to a restaurant that serves the foods you like. Slowly adapting to the local diet can save you a lot of trouble.
