Places for Shopping In London

By Broderick Bell Blog at 2010-12-24 05:16:28
If you're looking for the best shopping experience in the UK then you should be heading for London. Like Paris and New York, London is a great place to shop and has the best variety of shops and markets.

To begin your shopping experience it is essential that you stop at Burberrys which is located in 165 Reagent Street. This brand which is world famous for its tartan inspired clothing and accessories is pricey. For those with smaller pockets the store is still worth a visit - because it has an authentic British feel to it that you don't get in very many shops.

If you want a taste of the more expensive shops in London, the West End can also offer you the price tags of Bond Street. You might only want to window shop here, but even walking down the street takes you into another area of shopping altogether.

But if chain stores don't appeal to you, don't worry. There are plenty of more quirky shops available nearby if you hop on the Tube and visit Covent Garden. This is an area known for its street entertainment, market stalls and shops, so it can offer a vibrant and exciting day out.

Camden Town is London's most popular area for market stalls and second hand shops. It is an excellent area with incense burning and some rather far out fashions available. There are plenty of roadside cafes and pubs to break up the day here too.

However, central London isn't the only place to shop, and there're good deals on the side as well. The famous Portobello Market would be one to try out. Located 3km west of Marble Arch, Portobello is easy to reach by tube or by bus and is open six days a week with the antique market open on Saturdays.

If you're a flea market lover, don't miss two thousand-stall Portobello Road Market where you can find everything from the freshest of produce to the mustiest of antiques, separated by stalls of books, apparel, and assorted rummage sale regulars. Saturday is the day when antiques take center stage. The market is closed on Sunday.

Regent Street, running the ¾ of a mile between Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus, certainly provides the most visually elegant shopping experience in London as all the shops conform to the same ornate architectural style. It features department stores, fashion boutiques, restaurants and well known high street names and is also home to the world's best known toy store, Hamley's.

Kensington High Street in the main shopping street of Kensington and is essentially a smaller and less crowded version of Oxford Street. Located on this street you can fins such shops as Karen Millen, Monsoon, Gap, H&M, Ann Summers, Laura Ashey and a few others.
