Anorexia Nervosa is a life threatening condition that can put a serious strain on many of the body's organs and physiological resources. Weight loss is usually 15% below the person's normal body weight. People suffering from anorexia are very skinny but are convinced that they are overweight. Weight loss is obtained by many ways. Some of the common techniques used are excessive exercise, intake of laxatives and not eating. Anorexics have an intense fear of becoming fat. Their dieting habits develop from this fear.
An anorexia eating disorder is a deep-rooted problem of the mind. If you have this condition, you may find it difficult to be happy with yourself and the way you look. This is why you have to undergo therapy to treat an anorexia eating disorder in the first place. Therapy will not treat the causes of anorexia though. Any recovery still depends on yourself, the way you think and improving your self esteem. There are some things that you can do to prevent from ever having a relapse.
There are two types of anorexia. First one is called restricting anorexia. In this type, weight loss is achieved by restricting calories following extreme dieting and use of diet pills, or by excessive exercise. Second one is called purging anorexia. In this type of disorder, person tries to lose weight by coerce vomiting, and often uses laxative and diuretics drugs. Anorexia might be caused due to insecurity or pressure of being perfect. Uncontrolled feelings are common cause for causing anorexia.
Ayurvedic practitioners worry about the lack of nourishment as well as the depression that's often associated with anorexia. They may recommend cardamom, fennel, and ginger root to help stop vomiting and improve digestion, and advise a bland, soothing diet without spices, coffee, or tea.
Your child has a fragile mind and all these remarks, which to you may seem normal, he/ she might take them otherwise. Encourage your child to lead a healthy life, explain them about food, and most important of all, communicate with your kid. Take interest in what they do, ask them about their lives, friends, school. Be their friend as well as their parents.
There are also many environmental factors that can put individuals at risk of developing anorexia nervosa. Environmental risk factors include, but are not limited to, malnutrition as a baby, maternal depressive symptoms, childhood abuse, and a negative outlook of the self. The disorder, anorexia nervosa, is often compounded by a poor self image and pressure to be thin and attractive.
Medical treatment for anorexic individuals starts with stabilizing and serious health problems that might exist first. Some individuals will need to be hospitalized for a time in order to stabilize them and prevent them from continuing to starve themselves or even commit suicide. Many anorexics that are dangerously thin will be hospitalized until they gain enough weight to support their body's functions. When no immediate medical problems exist then the individual may be treated as an outpatient.
